Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence

Post by BloodViper »

After buying Kingdom Hearts, I had to go back up there and grab this charm. Naturally, I threw Disc 1 in and started it all up. Something's were different from the start, like the Kojima Productions logo now replaces the Konami Computer Entertainment Japan logo. I thought that was pretty sweet. Other things were added in too, like the new "I like MGS3!" option and Europen Extreme. I chose Normal. I skipped the intro sequence a little way through but... did anyone else notice the word "Duke" on the back of the guy's helmet that's in back with Snake? I don't remember seeing that one. But oh well. When I started playing, the 3rd person camera kind of feels weird. It's real easy to handle and control. But, like some others, I kind of liked the original camera settings and so I feel like this isn't really nessessary. However, it's real fun to play with and I'm open to anything Kojima has to offer. I'm going to have to get used to it since I have to beat the whole game over to unlock all the extras on that disc. I put in Disc 2 next and this is where I really started having fun. The Metal Gear Online portion of the game is such a step forward for the PS2 in online gaming. The menus are so well constructed and I was online and had an account in no time. After you get to a lobby, You can check out your personal data, such as your stats (which, in true MGS fasion, is a long list), as well as your friend list and "blacklist". Also avaliable for hardcore players is their ranking against the world. Getting into actually gameplay is probably one of the reasons I love this so much, it's so god damn quick and easy. You can go Quick Join and choose from the list of game options and then you are literally in a game 10 seconds later (or the server you're trying to connect is full, just do it again and you're in a game 20 seconds later). The gameplay online is simply a miracle, 4 hours online and I saw not one sign of lag. All of the MGS moves are open to use, while they are slightly altered for Snake to be supeior in the Snake vs. Soldiers mode, but in the end, going up against Snake with your teammates really does feel like you're fighting another team. You'll understand when you play. Other than that, also on Disc 2 was the Snake vs. Monkey mode (with four new levels that arn't unlocked), Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake emulated games that are pretty fun to play if you're like me, and there's other stuff that has to be unlocked but I don't have them so neh.. If anyone else gets this game, my account name is "BloodViper".

I was going to get the Limited Edition but I couldn't wait for an online order and just got it that night. I'll just have to get that third disc off eBay!

I'm so good online. Seriously, since I've started playing I've won like 95% of the matches I play each night. I guess all that replay value in Snake Eater really pays off in the end. Hey you Jew, we should 'hook' ^^UP^^ in-game. Get the game right now!

I'm thinkin' about picking up this game, although it probably won't be at least for a month because Kingdom Hearts II is on the top of my list. But the online mode really is that great? It's probably what I would be playing most of the time if I get the game. Oh, and can you use a USB Keyboard or Headset? I have both, but I was just wondering how in-game communication works. :P

IN-GAME COMMUNICATION!?!!?! Oh my god! It's so great!! You can talk using your USB keyboard. Also, USB Headsets are AVALIABLE! You can press the awesome uber [SELECT BUTTON] and hold that mother fucker down and you can talk to all your buddies that play the game, and are on your side, or as in deathmatch, everybody. BUT if an enemy shoots out the yellow radio clipped on the backside of another player, their voice communications is cut off. Pretty ingenious idea. My mom just caught me smoking... :(
