To be a little more in-depth, Dirge turned out a lot like I thought it would. When Snape posted that gameplay video a year or two ago, I cringed a little, because you could just tell that the gameplay wasn't going to be very fun. However, the tweaks they made to the American version have really gone a long way to make the gameplay so much better. It handles like any third-person shooter. In fact, if you've played Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex for the PS2, it's a lot like that. Vincent is easy to move around and it all feels pretty smooth. However, there's one thing that takes some getting used to: aiming. You know that big green aiming reticle in all the gameplay movies? Well, you have to hit the R1 button to bring that up, then hit the R1 button AGAIN to shoot. Then you can hit the Circle button to "lower" your weapon, which gets rid of the reticle. This mechanic is quite diorienting at first, but after about an hour or so, you get used to it. For you guys just starting the game, you might wanna go right into Hard Mode, because from just the first hour, I can tell that Normal mode isn't going to be that challenging at all. Also, you might have to play with the sensitivity settings for your aiming speed and camera speed, as they can seem a bit slow at first. Finally, I also switched the aiming to Manual. When in Semi-Automatic or Automatic aiming, the reticle basically locks right onto the closest guy and you just have to mash R1. Using Manual, you have to actually aim to get your hits, which makes combat a lot more interesting. Whew, that was really long winded. Anyway, I just hope you guys enjoy the game!
Thanks for the review Ev babes, I should be trying this out either tonight or tomorrow some time then I'll post my thoughts.Step, swapmagic is probably the easiest way to go. You don't have to 'mod' your PS2 as such, merely unscrew the front of the CD tray which does not involve opening up your PS2. Turn your PS2 on, open the CD tray, turn the PS2 off, remove the screw holding the front in place, remove the front of the tray, put the screw back and it's done. You then will need to do the disc swapping thing each time you use it, but that's no big deal.
