This is why FarCry gets GOTY in my opinion

in all honesty for both companies... they are in too deep competing with each other, making upgrades here upgrades there... they are forgetting one thing. There isnt a game on the market that uses any of this "additional" power they are adding to these 4 - 5 hundred dollar video cards. It is truely a waste of money for anyone to buy on of these cards, when you can get the same satisfaction and fps from a lower priced card. I mean in all honesty, I have tried alot of games, and I always use 1280 X 1024 32 bit, and all graphics as high as they will go and all my games run perfectly fine. Why would I or anyone for that matter want to go out and drop 500 bucks for a new "top of the line" video card, where you wont see any difference other that your fps going up some. Also to keep in mind, the human eye with 20/20 vision can only see at max 90 fps.. I get that and beyond on any game I play now other than SWG. My year old GForce 4 4200 will be the only card I buy until it burns up then I will get another one. By then it will be 30 bucks :)The big problem is the 2 companies are so far into "beating" each other every other year, that they have forgotten about the customers and the games. They have surpassed all games that are out to date and there is no use for those expensive ass cards. The only huge difference between the 2 is the rendering in Direct 3d and Open GL. ATI owns in Direct3d and NVidia owns in OpenGL. Hence the FarCry dilema in the NForce forums. People with GForce 400 MX cards (cheapest) are getting double the fps as a 9800 Pro. SO the price of the card doesnt mean shit when it comes to a gamer. All the statistics on the box are worthless. Its when you buy it, put it in your PC and you get 90+ fps for a 89 dollar card that should make you happy. Or you can spend 400 for the 5950 or the 9800 pro and get the same graphics just a little bit better FPS. HUGE waste of cash in my opinion.
What about the future?i mean if you have a card 5950 instead of a 5200 it WILL make a difference, even though the money is like 400 bucks in difference, you will be able to play future games on a 5950 and not on a 5200 (for now it'll do fine, but games increase drasticly) besides the fight between Nvidia and Ati is not like everyone likes it but as you know they're trying to get better cards, ofcourse they will be expensive first and get cheaper sooner or later, if the 2 of the companies team up and make cheap worthless cards because they wouldnt need to rush creating better cards if you both can have the same kind of cards and the recent games do not need such speeds is pretty gay, because if the graphics of the game increase fast, a better card is needed faster, and if they're too lazy to bring out the good cards, we'll all play with shitty cards for the 'future' games. After using my Pentium 2 MX with a Nvidia Riva TNT graphics card, i really love the newest/best cards (9800XT/Pro, 5900/5950) at the moment, the difference is soo big, but if they did not created such cards, the graphics would look horrible.

Which I have been priviledged to run both on my PC already and they run perfecty fine. The Doom 3 Beta that was released a month ago and the HL2 leak, both games ran great. Point is the higher end cards arent worth the money as of yet. If you dont run a 3D business or do top qualtiy 3d rendering then those cards are useless until games take advantage of them. I believe in not fucking the customer up the ass, as they are doing. They can talk to me in a year or 2 when games actually use the "extras".

Dude you wouldve noticed a difference playing on a 20 dollar gforce 2 MX with that Pentium 2.I have a geforce 2 mx downstairs, it's better as my old graph card but not that good, and a friend of mine has the geforce 400 mx and to be honest i can see the difference with my vid card now, when i run SWG (he installed it on my pc, and played for a while) i move a lot smoother than he does, and the other components of his pc are almost the same
