Now that your pc has 'fried' (I would fix it for free if you lived near me), this solution has become useless, but usually when you get so many spywares and viruses, a good reformat is always the solution.

I think my parents had in mind after they get me a new one that they will reformat my old one and give it to my mother. But after I get a new one, I'll just ask you guys what a sure way method of keeping your computer clean. :D

I'm talking about programs to use and when to use them (daily, weekly checkups, you know...).

d/l and run microsoft antispyware its good at keeping stuff out, get a software firewall like zonealarm, or get a suite like norton internet security which combines firewall, spyware killers, and antivirus.STOP D/L pr0n!!!

if you have a router then you dont need a software firewall unless you want outbound protection...a good antivirus is kaspersky or nod32...for spyware i personally use spy sweeper for resident protection and i use spybot for on demand scans....also spywareblaster (its good because it doesn't need to be running)....

Honestly, one should reformat once a month.Wow, that makes a lot of sense! That way you can spend a day or two out of each month backing everything up, and then the next day patching your MMO. I haven't reformatted this PC in... 2 years maybe? Maybe longer. Guess how much spyware I have on it? None. How? Firefox and common sense.
