It's a stand alone game. You basically fly around in a ship and do stuff. If that doesn't make you want to play it then I don't know what will. :D

If that doesn't make you want to play it then I don't know what will. :DPfft, I boned your Mother! The Single Player game puts you in the boots of a character called Edison Trent, you're sort of investigating the destruction of a space station in the begginging of the game. Whilst doing other missions for different military, rebel or criminal factions around a galaxy. You can become a military man, pirate, smuggler or merchant, go off and explore the galaxy and solar systems. The multiplayer game is basically the same, minus the story or characters. You basically go around, earning money, changing your reputation with the different factions, pirating and looting, or chasing down the criminals. But with other players. Whom you can join teams with to do large scale missions, or journey to outer worlds and fight aliens or stronger outlaws. Buy better equipment, earn better money. The best part is fighting in teams, against other players. Or pirating other players. You get into some serious dog fights. When we get better ships and more money, better weapons and such. We end up doing trade runs, someone becomes a cargoship, picks up diamonds or rare items and sells them. The others escort and protect the ship from enemies, and gets a cut of the money (even if you die, 90 percent through the run). It's good, like a MMORPG, but space flier, FPS style. AND FREE!

Download and install Freelancer Mod Manager from www.lancersreactor.comOnce it's installed, open the DIAKONIA file and enable it in mod manager. And don't enable any other mods.
