Valve just banned 30,000 steam accounts that were using ripped versions of HL2/ CS:S. Buying it is your best bet because theres no telling how many more they will find and ban in the near future.

well it wont if your pc meets the minimum requirements....but it still wont look sexy unless you have an uber comp...

Well to be honest I mainly server hop on CS:S, but one that is good for practicing would be "HL2Ground 24/7 Dust W/ Stats" simply because "omg i love the map de dust i can pwn soooooo many nubs on it". As for HL2 DM, I server hop a lot too and have yet to find a consistent server with quality maps playing. Whenever I play Garrysmod (something you'll definately want to get) I get Kam to make a server.

i bought this last night. it ...owns...harcore hemmerson im hungry style.and garrys mod is the devil because i spend hours trying to build stuff like a floating house.
