When Kevin Cagle was 12 years old, he and his friends went to a gym to sign up for karate classes. The kids were too late, but found boxing was still open. "People from the gym gave us a mouth piece and put some gloves on us," Cagle said. "I had to spar with this big 10-year-old. I beat him up pretty bad and have stuck with boxing since." As an amateur, Cagle was a three-time Golden Gloves champion and two-time state titleholder. On Sept. 6, 2003, Cagle turned pro at age 24 in Greensboro, N.C. After Gary Kirby dropped the North Carolinian at the fight's outset, Cagle regained his feet and quickly earned a first-round TKO. "I was a little excited at first," Cagle said. "I finally turned pro. There was no headgear. I got out there and Kirby knocked me off balance. After I fell, I said to myself, 'this is a fight. The referee is not going to save you.' There was no looking back. I did not want to worry about the judges and referees, so I took care of business in the ring." Cagle knocked out his next four 2003 opponents, including three in the opening round. He opened a busy 2004 on Jan. 17 by registering a fourth-round TKO over Kevin Carter in Greensboro. "Carter was a veteran who had fought Ricky Hatton," Cagle said. "He was there just to survive. It took me some time to figure him out and see his movement." Less than two weeks later on Jan. 29, 2004, Cagle scored a first-round knockout over Taryll Carpenter in Charleston, S.C. Carpenter entered the contest at a stout 180 pounds to Cagle's 159. The smaller Cagle knocked down his larger opponent with a combination ending with a right hand and a left hook. Despite his diminutive stature, Cagle imposed his will on Carpenter. On Feb. 21, 2004, Cagle earned his eighth consecutive knockout and blew out Travis Clybourn in the second round of their battle for the vacant Carolina Boxing Association light middleweight title. Cagle displayed impressive power and floored Clybourn in the first. The unbeaten fighter then ended matters with a strong right hand at 1:22 of the second. In his next contest on April 17, 2004, Cagle went the distance for the first time in his career and garnered a six-round decision in Greensboro. "I injured my right hand sparring before the fight," Cagle said. "Since Gilliam was a southpaw, I could not finish him. So, I had to outbox him. I had him hurt in the last seconds of the fight. It could have been stopped." Two weeks later on May, 1 2004, Cagle returned to his knockout routine and thundered his way to a first-round KO over Tim Scott from Greensboro. "Scott ran his mouth before the fight and I had to put a sock in it," Cagle said. "I hit him with a left hook to the body right in the liver. He could not move when he hit the ground." Cagle claimed the vacant WBE light middleweight title with an eight-round victory over Reggie Avent on July 17, 2004. The rising star landed a straight right hand and sent his opponent to the canvas with 11 seconds remaining in the fight. Avent survived the round, but was on the wrong end of the three scorecards, which had Cagle on top, 80-71. "[147 pounds] was the lowest weight I had ever fought at," Cagle said. "I felt like my punches were not what they were supposed to be at first. As the fight went on, I got stronger. I had him wobbled a couple times and beat him every round. Fast hands and combinations were just what Cagle needed to finish off Jeremy Mickelson on Sept. 25, 2004, in Raleigh, N.C. Once Cagle settled into the fight, he scored a fourth-round TKO. Before his next fight on Oct. 9, 2004, Cagle needed to lose weight to make 147 pounds. He dropped the necessary pounds and took on Ike Ezeji from Raleigh. Ezeji inadvertently elbowed his opponent in the eye during the first round. Cagle fought the remainder of the bout with one eye swollen nearly shut, but still managed to earn the six-round decision. Continuing his busy pace, Cagle stepped into the ring just two weeks later and recorded a six-round decision over Jerry Smith in Greensboro. Smith held and slipped his way through the contest. "Smith slipped below my knees," Cagle said. "He was so short that I almost had to go to my knees to hit him. He was just there to get paid and kept trying to hold on, so I beat him off." Cagle's next fight on Nov. 20, 2004, got stopped early due to an inadvertent head butt. Cagle had already dropped Andre Cray twice in the opening stanza when an accidental head butt jarred Cray. Already reeling, Cray could not go on. The fight was ruled a no contest. In his 11th fight of 2004, Cagle finished off Anthony Simpkins in the fifth round. Most recently, Cagle registered the seventh opening-round knockout of his career when he stopped Shannon Freeman on March 5, 2005, in Greensboro. Cagle currently is preparing for the toughest challenge of his career, a May 6 "ShoBox" bout with Yuri Foreman on SHOWTIME. "I fought Foreman before in the amateurs," Cagle said. He won on points, but I was inexperienced at that time. I will show up ready to roll on May 6. I am a nice guy, but inside the ring, it is a whole different story. I look innocent. I look young and people take me lightly. If Foreman takes me lightly, I feel for him."

A fight which I lost I love how some of that information is innaccurate though. I didn't say half of that shit, and I didn't turn Pro at 24. Atleast some of the fight descriptions are true

Contrary to popular belief, I can tan slightly. I am rather tanned in that pick, and it was taken when i first won the WBE belt. The Karate lesson thing actually happened, although it was Tae Kwon Do. I went the next day to try the class, thought it was for pussies, and continued boxing.
