Once they discovered it will cost like 3000 bucks to run a reasonable server with mobs and players they lost hope.

uhh, no? have you guys went to the site recently? They're making very good progress and finished with a lot of stuff. I doubt that there will be a release this summer, but it takes time especially since they do it on the side.
