Eatmo's Guide to Easier Controls.

If you're like me (and I know I am) then the SWG default controls feel very awkward for you. All those damn Mulit stroke commands, not to mention that uber ghey cursor mode where arrow keys make you strafe instead of turn. Relax, I'm going to show you how to make controls a hell of a lot easier. Even if you don't use EQ style (there are ones like FPS style and some others) you will find parts of this useful no doubt. For almost every action there is a hotbutton that already exists in "Abilities and Commands", it looks like a lightning bolt. I will give you an example of what mine looks like. There is only 4 commands I had to make myself, those are /speaklanguage basic, /peace; /healdamage (quick heal for fighting and healiong at the same time), /peace; /healdamage self, and /dragincapacitatedplayer (medic only special ability lets you drag incapped players). Part 1- Setting up your hot button banks.Ok, I'm sure you know that by making your hot button bank larger you can have 2 rows of 12 per hot button bank. First let's organize those filthy baztards. Bank 1 (24 slots) COMBAT BANKTop Row: All of my combat hot buttons. Special moves like chest shot, rolling shot and tons of others, peace button, and all of those nice things. Bottom Row: All of my medical hot buttons are here, along with my BURST RUN button (the most important button you have). "WHAT!? NO STANCE CHANGING BUTTONS!? YOU CRAZY!!"Nope, All of my stances are set to a single button near my movement keys. This makes em a LOT faster and frees up needed much needed bank slots. In fact, since I have them set to 1 button and not a hotbutton bank slot I find myself using them a lot more and in the right situations, and it has helped my killing abilities a LOT.Bank 2 CRAFTING BANKTop Row: All of my crafting hot buttons. Surveying, sampling, all of my survey and crafting devices, this is mostly empty. But it still needs it's own bank, if you have crafting on your combat bank you're wasting precious slots.Bank 3 SOCIAL BANKTop Row: All of my moods, some useful emotes like "Yes", "No", "Stop", "Bye", "Hi", you get the idea.Bottom Row: All of my languages that I speak.Bank 4 ENTERTAINER BANKTop Row: All of my flourishes, stopmusic and startmusic. Now, let's get rid of that awkward keyboard commands setup. All of those stupid keys like CTRL+SHIFT+~ to change hot button banks, 2 stoke to open your inventory, using the mouse to turn in cursor mode, and all that other crap has gotta go.Go to OPTIONS (I think CTRL+O default) and go to CONTROLS tab. At the bottom you'll see a button called KEYMAP. Click on that. Now you will see a drop down box of different keymap styles. Even if ya didn't play EQ, one thing it still has going for it is it's very easy to use as far as controls go. Go to the drop down box and find "EQ Style Controls" and click on it. The only command you need to know at this point is RIGHT CLICK takes you between cursor mode and mouselook mode. Now for this part you're going to want to find a nice outta the way spot like a park on Coronet city or somewhere away from everyone. Make yourself AFK with the message like "Fiddling With Controls". It is kinda hard setting up buttons when you're in tell hell. The EQ Command Setup Basics*RIGHT CLICK changes from mouselook mode to cursor mode. *Go to OPTIONS, CONTROL (where you were before KEYMAP) and click on the box "Arrow Keys to Turn in Data Mode (EQ Style Only)." Now when you are in cursor mode the left and right keys turn you left and right. TONS easier than dragging the cursor to each corner of the screen to turn left or right.*To type, you need to hit ENTER first. Yup, no more just typing. But on the + side this frees up all of those letter keys.*What ever it used CTRL+Letter is now just the letter. So instead of CTRL+I for inventory it's now just I.Now it's time to customize your controls. Hot button banks I suggest putting back to F1-F12, with secondary bank as BUTTON+F1-BUTTON+F12If you use WADS keys to move around in games, use those. Put your stances near you, put those a command (yes they are in the command list). Change Bank Up and Bank Down to a single key stoke, all of your maps, all of that stuff. Sit down and fiddle with every command. Things like select target (and next and previous) can be set to a single command as well. I have my hot button bank next and previous set to [ and ], and selecting targets is as easy as ; and '. My 3 stances are END crouch, HOME kneel and DELETE stand (I'm a lefty so I use the arrow keys to move around). Sit down, spend some time going through every command you're not sure of, assign things to make em easy to use. It will make the game 10x more efficient for you.

umm this thing is ok i guess but if you're in combat why do you need to change banks or open your inventory? i dont like how you totally changed everything since you'll only use some of it out of combat. and what is this about top and bottom rows? i have another question, is it really possible to hotkey something to auto craft?

great post, goats... i hope you can set something to auto craft ... that would be radical... and i would LOVE to have EQ style... except for i like ESFD not WADS hehe ... so i can have all my things like q is attack and w is respond to /tells and r is auto run and stuff but thanks for all the info, goats :)
