Doom 3 Performance boost tip thingy

Ok I'm not sure if this works, but they I read this on the myg0t forums lol.*************************************************************First If you Have An ATI Card Download The DOOM Drivers. ATI DOOM3 Drivers (4.9 catalyst) Secondly read this : There is a boost, but don't expect miracles. With that said, give this a read: As all of you who allready have this game recognized the game is very slow even on new Computers. I found out the reason for this and the solution to fix this problem. As you already know after installation the game consits only of the doom3.exe and some .PK4 files. Those PK4 files includes the entire game (sounds, videos, textures etc.) in high compressed form. Normally those files were decompresse during the game. But this exactly is the problem. Even new CPUs are not able to decompress those files while running the game with good peformance and therfore the game runs very **** also on new computers. I don't know if the develpers of ID-Soft was just too stupid to think about this or if they have an agreement with some hardware manufacturing firms. How to get around this problem: It is very simple. Go to your Doom 3 installation directoy and get inside the folder "Base". There are some .PK4 files you have to open each of them with WinRAR 3.3 and extract their entire contents to the Base dir in you Doom 3 installation folder (replace all files if they are any duplicates). Now you have to delete all .PK4 files in the Base folder to prevent the game to use those compressed files agian. Now the game starts and runs mutch faster!!! Have fun playing Doom 3!!! It gives you a performance boost and improves some load times. ************************************************************I want to try this but I'm not sure if it will fuck up my game or not.. If anybody has done this, tell me if eet works.

tisk tisk, you want good performance, buy a 6800 GT card with a AMD 64, it'll blow doom 3 out of the water

Either try to get a job, or live with it.I'm not flaming you, I'm just pointing to a fact that performance is mostly about hardware, not really software, ofcourse drivers help but it's mostly hardware, and the 6800 GT and X800 are still in kids shoes, but they are doing better than the old cards, i swear if they would make the cards 150$ each, they would sell like mad and they would do better business than ever, too bad marketing isn't going that way, 500$ a card, redicilous, i can get a whole pc for that :?

Anyway, since I've done that, it does run better, and I can run it in 1024x768 now and it runs better than it did before. So whatever, try it if you want.Oh, and Step, I can only play this on my mom's computer, since her's is the only one that has XP on it, mine and my dad's does not. Her video card is a GeForce4 Ti 4400. I have been thinking of getting a new card and stuff and all though for my pc, and one of my dad's friends at work is gonna try to get us a copy of XP so that's pretty good.

Didn't work for meh, said it was missing default.cfg, so I'll just stick to some slightly laggy gameplay until I get my 1 gig of RAM in about a week.
