Second Life
Second Life
http://secondlife.com/Not that I'm actually going to play it (probably), but it seems to be a pretty cool idea. You pay a one-time membership fee of $9.95 (plus a bit more to buy land) and you use the in-game creation tools to build everything. For instance you can make yourself a flying car, give yourself superpowers, pretty much whatever you want. Also, if you happen to build a site that becomes very popular (such as a theme park or something) then they'll give you a certain percent of their profits. Sounds interesting.
holy shit. ijust went through the whole site for that, and it is insane!!! you can literally do anything! like a Sim's Online that actually works!!!! if i didnt love swg so much, i would definetly look into this, but it also looks complicated. i looked at a screenshot of someone "crafting" a gun, and it was hard as crap. physics and stuff actually apply! but this looks really innovative to say the least. i encourage everyone to look at the site.

I read about this in CGW a while back I think. The concept of it sounds very appealing, but it also sounds pretty complicated. The learning curve on it will probably be like 10x more than SWG's.Indeed. I think I'll try the 7-day trial thing and see how it is.On a side note, anyone ever read the book Snow Crash? In it, there's a kind of cyberworld...thing...where people who know they're way around programming and whatnot are basically in control. I know Milk has read it and said somewhere that he wished there were an MMOG that kind of played off that idea, and this seems a bit similar, which is why I brought it up.
