I've never played Star Ocean, so I'm not sure.Yea the battle system is one of my favorite parts of the game. It doesn't get boring like it did for me in like FFX. The battle systems reminds me of the battle system that was used in Secret of Mana for SNES. You can have up to 4 guys in your party to fight. You can control all 4 at once or can have 2 automatic and 2 manual or like 1 manual and 3 semi-auto, just what ever suits you the best. even if you have one of your players on auto you can still control some of there actions like casting a spell or use an item. Here's an example I've been using : I control the main guy because he is like the tank/damage dealer, I have a healer in auto that cast healing/buff spells, I have a mage that cast attack spells and the 4 person is usually another attacker. There are like 7 people in my party now so I am constantly swapping people in and out. In battles you can do several different combos by hitting different buttons. So it never really gets boring. The battles are not random either, you can see the emeny and you can try and avoid them or engage.Oh yea real nice graphics and a good story line too. Nice anime scences also.I think you will like it.
