ordering a comp for my brofor word processing and gamingi'm not worried about getting an insane system, he pretty much plays frickin starcraft and other low graphic games, but im sure he'll wanna play the new one, and some bigger stuff, Gears of War PC or Bioshock, Oblivion Elder Scrolls and shit like thatsoa couple quickies256mb nVidia GeForce 8600 GTSor, spend an extra $350 and get768mb nVidia GeForce 8800 GTSalsoit'll be running Vista, so nextso i got 2GB, 3GB, or 4GB DDR, it's $70 more for 3GB and $150 more for 4GB (both 3 and 4 run at 4 DIMMs if that matters)the 350 upgrade seems like the biggest thing i want to cut from the cost
My computer uses a gig of ram to run vista (ultimate), sitting idle. The 768mb is a lot better than the 8600, but the 8600 will run anything that's out right now (and starcraft 2 won't be too demanding), so maybe cut that and get the 3 gig of ram if it's just 70 more.
I would dump the 8600gts and get a x1950xt, as it absolutely rapes the 8600gts in real gaming performance. $170 bucks, though it's DX9 (not that it matters). By the time DX10 games become standard, the 8600gts will be struggling to run them anyways.
Catapultam habeo. Nisi pecuniam omnem mihi dabis ad capul tuum saxum immane mittam.
Yea x1950 is pretty good. I would still get an nvidia over an ATI anyday because I'm a fanboy AND because they release new drivers every month basically.

I ordered a Macbook Pro from Apple a little over a week ago. It hasn't been processed/shipped yet, but once it is, I should be getting it within 2 days.Total cost with additional battery and a few protective accessories: about $2990
I would sty away from ATI/AMD like they had aids. They havent made a decent product in several years. The 8600 is almost as good as junk. If you plan on plyaing Crysis or the like you wont want that ATi paper weight or the 8600 imo.
Not true. Here's an Apple Macbook Pro notebook playing Bioshock with no lag and on nearly max settings. The video card is a (mobile) Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT. it can handle Bioshock, I'm guessing it will do pretty well with Crysis.

Run BioShock max settings at 1900x1200 and I will be satisfied.
