Never did. I just google'd it, and i'm surprised i've never even heard of it, since I think it came out in '02. Also you're right about EVE being dull. The early stages of the game involve training skills while you watch movies (I just watched wrath of kahn). It's the late game that seems appealing to me, being all PvP alliance war type stuff.
I havn't played it but I heard about it b/c it's supposed to be a lot like Freelancer. Many of the people that I played with on the server with the Star Wars mod for FL switched to EVE.

Many of the people that I played with on the server with the Star Wars mod for FL switched to EVE.The only thing is has in common with Freelancer is that it has spaceships.It's a much more tactical and business orientated game. It plays nothing like freelancer as everything is done with a mouse click rather than the FPS game mechanic. And it's boring as fuck unless you have a mind for economics and business.
